A temporary light installation, while also taking into account Covid-19 measures for social distancing, this project titled “Covid Confessionals” proposes a set of iridescent curved walls (defined a 6-foot radius circular grid) that are activated by light characteristics of color, reflection, and caustics. Each of the confessionals, act as room sized face shields that provide a barrier for meeting. The 6-foot spacing of the urban shields encourages physical distancing, while also providing a place for interaction.
The ground plane surrounding the shields is demarcated by a set of vibration activated lights placed at the center of each 6 foot radius circle in the grid. As the passerby steps on the interactive lights, a field of light dynamically bounces off the illuminated shields and encourages physically distanced interaction and play.
